What is Cosmetic Dermatology?

Within the brand of dermatology, there are several different subspecialties. At Dermatology of Southeastern Ohio, our team is experienced in the subspecialty of cosmetic dermatology and offers cosmetic services to patients throughout the Zanesville area.

Cosmetic dermatology focuses on improving the appearance of the skin through comprehensive cosmetic procedures. In many cases, this dermatology subspecialty is used to elevate a patient’s self esteem by contouring certain facial features or correcting various skin concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles, skin discoloration, and sun damage.

At Dermatology of Southeastern Ohio, our cosmetic treatments are performed by our experienced aesthetician, Marisa Jones. She specializes in helping individuals achieve their best skin yet through treatments like medical grade facials, chemical peels, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, waxing, and make-up application.

Aestheticians typically have a combination of education, training, licensing, and skills that ensure they deeply understand the industry. Regarding education, a practicing aesthetician is required to have a cosmetology degree, which requires a GED or high school diploma.

With a cosmetology degree, aestheticians can perform some cosmetic procedures, such as laser treatments and facials. However, to perform cosmetic treatments in a healthcare setting, such as our dermatology clinic, aestheticians can have additional training to become a master or medical aesthetician.

To become a master aesthetician, students need to complete a 600-hour training program in which they learn specialized treatments for skin conditions and disorders, pre- and post-operative skin care, and more.

Cosmetic dermatology benefits the skin in several different ways. Through our comprehensive cosmetic treatments, you can:

  • Improve signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Correct skin discoloration, such as dark spots.
  • Smooth out uneven skin texture.
  • Boost collagen and elastin production.
  • Achieve a more vibrant skin complexion.
  • Improve facial scarring.
  • Tighten sagging skin.
  • Address unwanted skin concerns.

To learn more about what pesky skin concerns we can treat and address with cosmetic treatments, reach out to our dermatology practice today.
